Agreement
Using the site means accepting these terms
By accessing or using Project Torii, you agree to these Terms of Use and the policies incorporated by reference. If you do not agree, do not use the site.
You must use the site only in compliance with applicable law. If you use Project Torii on behalf of an organization, you represent that you have authority to bind that organization to these terms.
Project Torii is operated from Japan and provides English-language guidance for people planning travel in Japan.
What the site provides
Travel guidance, not a guarantee
Editorial information
Project Torii publishes comparisons, reviews, explanations, tools and local context intended to help visitors research travel decisions.
No universal best choice
A recommendation or Travel Match is a starting point based on stated factors. It is not a promise that a service will be best for every traveler or itinerary.
Conditions can change
Prices, plans, networks, coverage, speeds, fair-use rules, device compatibility, availability and provider terms may change after publication.
Verification remains important
Before purchasing or relying on a service, confirm current details, eligibility and restrictions directly with the relevant official provider.
Your decisions
You remain responsible for your travel choices
You are responsible for deciding whether a product, plan, route, booking, device setup or other travel option is suitable for you. Consider your itinerary, devices, health, accessibility needs, budget, risk tolerance and the latest official information.
Project Torii does not provide legal, immigration, medical, financial, tax, insurance or other regulated professional advice. Information on those subjects is general context only and is not a substitute for advice from an appropriately qualified professional or public authority.
Do not rely on the site as an emergency service. For urgent safety, medical, transport or consular assistance, contact the appropriate local authority or service provider.
Third-party services
Purchases and service contracts are with the provider
Project Torii may link to eSIM providers, mobile carriers, Pocket Wi-Fi companies, booking services, transport services or other third parties. Unless expressly stated otherwise, Project Torii does not sell, issue, activate, deliver or provide those third-party products or services.
Any purchase, account, booking, refund, cancellation, data allowance, coverage commitment, warranty or customer-support relationship is governed by the destination provider’s current terms and policies. Questions or disputes about a third-party transaction should be directed to that provider.
A link does not mean Project Torii controls or guarantees the destination website, its security, availability, content or performance. Review the provider’s terms, privacy information and purchase details before proceeding.
Affiliate relationships
Some links may support Project Torii
Project Torii may earn a commission when a visitor follows certain links and completes a qualifying action or purchase, at no additional cost to that visitor unless clearly stated otherwise.
Commercial relationships do not determine our conclusions, comparison order or Travel Match. Availability of an affiliate program does not guarantee inclusion, and a non-affiliate option may be recommended when it better fits the stated criteria.
Intellectual property
The site and its original content are protected
Unless otherwise stated, Project Torii and its licensors own the site’s original text, structure, graphics, branding, comparison frameworks, tools and other materials, subject to applicable intellectual-property law. Third-party names, logos and trademarks belong to their respective owners.
You may access the site and make reasonable personal, non-commercial use of its content. You may share a normal link to a public page and quote a limited portion for commentary, criticism or another use permitted by law when Project Torii is clearly identified as the source.
Without prior written permission, you may not reproduce substantial portions of the site, republish complete articles or tables, sell or sublicense the content, remove attribution, create a misleading derivative, or systematically extract content to build a competing database, publication, product or model.
Ordinary search-engine indexing that respects applicable technical instructions, including robots.txt, is permitted. Other automated access must not bypass controls, create unreasonable load or interfere with the site.
Acceptable use
Do not misuse the site
You must not:
- use the site for unlawful, fraudulent or abusive activity
- attempt to gain unauthorized access to the site, accounts, servers or connected systems
- introduce malware, harmful code or disruptive requests
- circumvent security, consent, access or rate-limiting measures
- impersonate Project Torii or falsely suggest endorsement or affiliation
- use automated systems in a way that creates unreasonable load or materially disrupts other visitors
- use the content in a way that infringes intellectual-property, privacy or other rights
We may restrict access, block abusive traffic or take other reasonable protective measures when we believe these terms, site security or applicable law are being violated.
Messages and feedback
Information you choose to send
If you contact Project Torii, you are responsible for the content you submit and must have the right to provide it. Do not send passwords, payment-card details, passport information, medical records or other unnecessary sensitive information.
You retain ownership of original material you submit. You permit us to use the message as reasonably necessary to respond, investigate a correction, protect the site or comply with law. If you voluntarily provide general ideas or feedback without requesting confidentiality, we may use them to improve the site without compensation or attribution.
Personal information is handled as described in our Privacy Policy.
Availability and changes
The site may change or become unavailable
We may correct, update, add, remove, suspend or discontinue content or site features at any time. We do not promise that every page, tool, link or feature will always be available, error-free or compatible with every browser or device.
We may update these Terms of Use when the site, business model, legal requirements or services change. The updated terms will appear on this page with a revised date. Continued use after the effective date of an update means the updated terms apply to that use.
Disclaimers and liability
Reasonable limits apply
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Project Torii is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. We do not make warranties about completeness, accuracy, uninterrupted availability, fitness for a particular purpose, provider performance, coverage, price, compatibility or travel outcome.
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Project Torii and its operator will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive loss, or for loss of data, profit, opportunity, connectivity, bookings or travel enjoyment arising from use of or reliance on the site or a third-party service.
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited, or any mandatory consumer right that applies to you.
Governing terms
Japan law applies, subject to mandatory protections
These Terms of Use are governed by the laws of Japan, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Disputes relating to the site will be submitted to a competent court in Japan, except where mandatory law gives a consumer the right to use another court or law.
If part of these terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue to apply to the extent permitted by law. A failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of the right to enforce it later.
